Baudrier XII, 295 und 264f. - Wohlerhaltenes Exemplar der beliebten Homiliarien, die der Historiograph und Geistliche Paulus Diaconus (auch Paul Warnefried, 720-799) im Auftrag von Karl dem Großen zusammen stellte, frühere Quellen nennen Alcuin als Herausgeber. Die beiden Teile enthalten Auszüge aus Väterhomilien der Heiligen Gregor der Große, Augustinus, Hieronymus, Ambrosius und anderer für die Sonn- und Feiertage, der Schluss mit Homilien der Heiligen. - Der Titelholzschnitt des zweiten Teils mit einer hübschen Darstellung der Gemeinschaft der Gläubigen als "Jünger Jesu" mit dem Schriftband "Hi sint Fili mei dilecti" mit der Darstellung von Aposteln, Heiligen, Päpsten, Mönchen und Nonnen, darunter der Heilige Sebastian und Petrus sowie Laurentius und Franziskus. - Bemerkenswert ist die breite vierteilige Holzschnitt-Bordüre mit floral umspielten Kandelabern, in denen Putti spielen bzw. oben und unten weiteren geflügelten Putti, Grotesken etc. - Besitzvermerke von alter Hand auf dem ersten Titelblatt, mehrere S. mit Marginalien von alter Hand, Bl. e6 mit hinterlegtem Randausriss, einige S. etwas fingerfleckig, insgesamt wohlerhaltenes und dekoratives Exemplar.

Prints before 1600, Bibles, Classics in Original Languages – Post-Incunabula. - With woodcut printer's mark on the first title and large woodcut title (2nd), as well as two repeated four-part woodcut borders by Guillaume Leroy, numerous metalcut initials of up to 6 lines, and titles printed in red. - Well-preserved copy of a magnificent Lyon edition of the very popular, frequently printed homilies, compiled by the historiographer and cleric Paulus Diaconus (also Paul Warnefried, 720-799) on behalf of Charlemagne. Earlier sources name Alcuin as the editor. - The two parts contain excerpts from homilies by Saints Gregory the Great, Augustine, Jerome, Ambrose, and others for Sundays and feast days, the second part contains homilies by the saints. - The title woodcut of the second part features a beautiful illustration of the "Disciples of Jesus" with the inscription "Hi sint Fili mei dilecti", thus depicting apostles, saints, popes, monks, and nuns, including Saints Sebastian and Peter, Lawrence and Francis. - Noteworthy is the wide margined, four-part woodcut border with florally decorated candelabras, in which putti are playing, and above and below, further winged putti, grotesques, etc. - Ownership remakrs by an old hand on first title page, several pages with marginalia in old hand, leaf e6 with backed marginal tear, some pages slightly finger-stained, overall a well-preserved and decorative copy.
