Lot 333 Emanuel Swedenborg.
Literature of 17th to 19th Century – First edition. - VD18 12968439 - Ziegenfuss II, p. 667 ff.: "Swedenborg claimed to have precise knowledge of the spirit world. In his true and actual essence, man is spirit and lives in communion with spirits. These are angels if he is good, but hellish spirits if he is evil." - Famous counter-treatise against the work of Christian Wilhelm Kindleben: On the Non-Existence of the Devil from 1776. - Cf. ADB15, p. 765-68: ". C.W. Kindleben now fought against the tendencies of the Enlightenment, which he himself had previously embraced, at least in the religious sphere. In 1778, he published Der Teufeleien des 18. Jahrhunderts letzter Act (The Devilry of the 18th Century: Final Act), a kind of retraction of his 1776 book Ueber die Nonexistenz des Teufels (On the Non-Existence of the Devil), which was entirely rationalistic in tone. This led him into a protracted scholarly dispute with Professor Heinrich Martin Gottfried Küster in Giessen, who had been discussing the doubts surrounding the doctrine of the devil for decades.
