Im vorliegenden Text plädiert er für die Beschäftigung mit den Klassikern als notwendige Vorstufe für das Verständnis der christlichen Lehre. - Es fehlt das leere Bl. a1. - Einband an der oberen Kapitale mit Fehlstelle, Schwach wasserfl., vereinzelt stockfl., Seitensteg von Bl. a2 hinterlegt, dasselbe mit kleinem Randausbruch, Bl. a2 und a3 mit bräunl. Spuren eines entfernten Blattweisers. - Provenienz: Bei liegt eine Quittung mit Nennung des Exemplars des Antiquariats Ackermann, München, datiert 13.2.1968. - Im Handel von großer Seltenheit, für uns auf Auktionen der letzten 50 Jahre nur in 2 Exemplaren nachweisbar.

Prints before 1600, Bibles, Classics in Original Languages – Incunabula. - Rubricated, with one 6-line and twenty 5-line wood-cut initials coloured in blue, pink and yellow incorporating figurative ornaments (plants, animals), as well as numerous pilcrows, majuscules, initial-strokes and marginals in red. - Particularly rare incunabula with the influential humanistic programme of Greek church father Basileios, here in its first Latin edition. - An early printing by the Ulm pioneer printer Johann Zainer the Elder, our copy with large, gorgeously ornamented initials rubricated in several colours. Basileios The Great (c. 330-379), is considered one of the outstanding theologians of late antiquity. In present text he argues in favour of studying the classics as a necessary preliminary stage for understanding Christian doctrine. - Blank leaf a1 is missing. - Spine with fault at top edge, faint waterstaining throughout, occasional foxing, leaf a2 enforced at side edge, the same leaf with a small marginal tear, leaves a2 and a3 with traces of removed finger index. - Provenance: Enclosed a receipt of Antiquariat Ackermann, Munich, mentioning the sale of the present copy, dated 13 February 1968. - Of great rarity, only 2 copies traceable for us at auctions in the last 50 years.
