Alte Künstlergraphik – Apell 1880, 13III. - Dritter Zustand. - Mit den Lugt Stempeln von Pierre Narcisse Guérin (Lugt 2203) und von Forster (Lugt 4188). - Dido, die Königin Karthagos, empfängt auf einer Kline liegend den mythologischen Stammvater Aaneas in ihrer Stadt Karthago. Der Sage nach gründete Dido die Stadt Karthago, als sie während der Flucht vor ihrem Bruder an der Küste von Tunis ankam. Der Kupferstich zeigt die antike Königin wie sie sich auf den jünglichen Amor lehnt, eine Dienerin stützt sich auf der Rücklehne der Kline ab. Im Hintergrund sieht man die Küste der Stadt. - Blatt leicht gebräunt, linker Rand leicht wasserrandig. Leicht fleckig. Insgesamt prachtvoller sehr gut erhaltener Kupferstich. Kontrastreicher und feinliniger Druck.

Signed in the plate. - Third state. - With the Lugt stamps of Pierre Narcisse Guérin (Lugt 2203) and Forster (Lugt 4188). - Dido, Queen of Carthage, receives the mythological ancestor Aaneas in her city of Carthage while reclining on a cline. According to legend, Dido founded the city of Carthage when she arrived on the coast of Tunis while fleeing from her brother. The copperplate engraving shows the ancient queen leaning on the young Cupid, with a servant supporting herself on the back of the cline. The city's coast can be seen in the background. - Sheet slightly browned, left margin slightly waterstained. Slightly stained. Overall, a magnificent, very well-preserved copperplate engraving. High-contrast, fine-lined impression.
