Lexicon 216. - Fein ausgeführtes, unveröffentlichtes Manuskript (oder frühe Abschrift) des dänischen Artillerieoffiziers Ezechias Gustav von Mechlenburg (1742-1804) über eine dreimonatige Reise nach Deutschland, um die Artillerien verschiedener deutscher Staaten zu studieren und die dänisch-norwegische Artillerie und Festung zu reformieren und zu verbessern. Auf seiner Reise besuchte er Leipzig, Braunschweig, Wittenberg, Dresden, Magdeburg, Zorgau, Potsdam und Berlin und schloss Freundschaft mit Gerhard von Scharnhorst. Das Manuskript ist in vier Teile gegliedert: 1. Von der Einrichtung des chursächsischen Artillerie-Wesens. - 2. Nachrichten von der Oesterreichischen Artillerie. - 3. Nachrichten von der Preussischen Artillerie. - 4. Nachrichten von der Braunschweigischen Artillerie. - Die von I bis XII nummer. Tafeln zeigen in feinen Details alle Arten deutscher Artillerie. - Mechlenburg wurde 1776 Generaladjutant von König Christian VII. und begleitete 1778 den preußischen Feldzug gegen Österreich. Im Jahr 1788 befehligte er als Oberstleutnant die Artillerie im Krieg gegen Schweden, 1792 erhielt er das Kommando über das gesamte Artilleriekorps. Er unterrichtete an der Kadettenanstalt der Artillerie, führte Experimente mit verschiedenen Geschützen durch und korrespondierte mit Scharnhorst über technische Fragen der Artillerie. 1801 führte er ein Kommando im Krieg gegen Großbritannien, danach wurde er Generalmajor und Kommandant der Festung Frederikstad. - Ein Manuskript über ballistische Experimente von Mechlenburgs findet sich im Preußischen Staatsarchiv (GStA PK VI. HA NI Scharnhorst, Nr. 193 fol. 2-38). - 1. S. mit altem Stempel einer Kgl. Artillerie-Bibliothek. - Blattränder tls. etwas stock- u. fingerfleckig, sonst wohlerhalten.

Manuscripts – Report of the journey to Germany by royal and supreme command. German manuscript in brown ink by a legible hand on laid paper with watermark. With some text illustrations and 13 finely executed manuscript plates with ink drawings. Signed and dated by Mechlenburg after his preface. Contemp. cardboard (soiled, rubbed, corners bumped, small losses to covers). - Finely executed, unpublished manuscript (or early copy) by the Danish artillery officer Ezechias Gustav von Mechlenburg (1742-1804) about a three-month journey to Germany to study the artillery of various German states and to reform and improve the Danish-Norwegian artillery and fortifications. On his journey he visited Leipzig, Brunswick, Wittenberg, Dresden, Magdeburg, Zorgau, Potsdam and Berlin and became friends with Gerhard von Scharnhorst. The manuscript is divided into four parts: 1. the organisation of the artillery system in Saxony. - 2. news of the Austrian artillery.- 3. news of the Prussian artillery.- 4. news of the Brunswick artillery.- The plates numbered from I to XII. show in fine detail all types of German artillery.- Mechlenburg became adjutant general to King Christian VII in 1776 and accompanied the Prussian campaign against Austria in 1778. In 1788 he commanded the artillery in the war against Sweden as lieutenant colonel, and in 1792 he was given command of the entire artillery corps. He taught at the artillery cadet school, carried out experiments with various guns and corresponded with Scharnhorst on technical matters relating to artillery. In 1801 he led a command in the war against Great Britain, after which he became major general and commander of the Frederikstad fortress. - A manuscript on Mechlenburg's ballistic experiments can be found in the Prussian State Archives (GStA PK VI HA NI Scharnhorst, no. 193 fol. 2-38). - First page with old stamp of a royal artillery library. - Margins occ. somewhat foxed and fingerstained, otherwise well preserved.
