Cartes et Figures du Voyage en Nubie et en Abyssinie. Mit 88 gestochenen Tafeln, darunter 4 teils gefaltete Karten. Prais, Plassan, 1792. 4°. 2 Bll. Marmoriertes HLdr. mit goldgepr. RSchilden (Fehlstelle am Rücken Gelenke angebrochen, stark berieben, unteres Kapital beschädigt).

Geographie und Reisen – Nissen ZIB, 618. - James Bruce (1730-1794) war ein schottischer Naturforscher und war u. a. in den Bereichen der Ornithologie, Botanik, Geographie und Astronomie versiert. Zusätzlich zu seinem umfassenden Wissen auf verschiedenen Bereichen der Naturwissenschaften sprach er elf verschiedene Sprachen. Bruce vebrachte über zwölf Jahre in Nordafrika und war der erste Europäer, der den Verlauf des Nils kartographierte. - Leicht stockfleckig. Ränder gebräunt. Prachtvolle detailreiche Kupferstiche mit Motiven der Flora, Fauna, Ethnologie und Archäologie. Teils ganzseitig, teils doppelseitig. Insgesamt ein sehr gutes Exemplar.

Geography and Travel – Africa. - With 88 engraved plates, including 4 partly folded maps. Marbled leather with gilt stamped ribbed boards. (Loss at the spine, joints chipped. Heavily rubbed. Lower capital damaged). - James Bruce (1730-1794) was a Scottish naturalist and was well versed in the fields of ornithology, botany, geography and astronomy, among others. In addition to his extensive knowledge in various fields of natural science, he spoke eleven different languages. Bruce spent over twelve years in North Africa and was the first European to map the course of the Nile. - Slight foxing. Margins browned. Magnificently detailed copper engravings with motifs of flora, fauna, ethnology and archaeology. Partly full-page, partly double-page. Overall a very good copy.
