Die reichen Bestände des Museums dienten ihm zur Exemplifizierung seiner zwischen 1865 und 1890 erscheinenden Synopsen, wie der hier vorliegenden über Schildkröten. - Provenienz: Bibl. der Akad. d. Wiss d. UdSSR, mit mehreren (Ausscheidungs-)stempeln und -vermerken dieser Institution. - Stellenweise leicht wasserrandig und gebräunt, sonst wohlerhaltenes Exemplar dieses selten angebotenen Titels.

Natural Sciences – Comprehensive scientific synopsis of the world's turtles. - Alexander Alexandrovich Strauch (1832-93) is considered the first significant Russian herpetologist. As director of the Museum of Zoology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, he established St. Petersburg as an international centre for herpetological research. The museum's rich collections served as specimen for his synopses, published between 1865 and 1890, such as this one on turtles. - Provenance: Library of the Soviet Academie of Science, with severals ex-library stamps and remarks of this institution. - Spine of cover with some faults and creases, library label on front wrapper, paper slightly time-stained, otherwise a well-preserved copy of this rare item.
