Zoologie - Herpetologie

Naturwissenschaften – Standardwerk der russischen Herpetologie. - Adler I, S. 68f.

Natural Sciences – Standard work on Russian herpetology, complete in 3 volumes with a total of 21 phototype plates as well as 95 text illustrations. - Rare in a complete set like her, currently not available in trade, no auctions results traceable for us whatsoever. - Complete section on herpetology from 'Fauna of Russia And Adjacent Countries'. The three-volume work is considered the magnum opus of A. M. Nikolsky (1858-1942), the leading Russian herpetologist of his time and, from 1895, head of the herpetology department of the Museum of Zoology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In his approach, Nikolsky combined systematics and empiricism and, unlike his Russian predecessors, included zoogeographical aspects. - Set of ex-library copies with multiple stamps and some handwritten annotations on title pages, series title of vol. 2 with water stain, plates of vol. 1 slightly foxed, browned due to paper condition, overall solid, partly uncut set of this particularly scarce work.
