Garrison/Morton 5117. - Erste Gesamtausgabe. - Die posthum von seinem Sohn herausgegebenen Schriften des bedeutenden Arztes (1609-1674), Prof. der Medizin in Utrecht, waren meist vorher schon einzeln erschienen, darunter die berühmte Abhandlung "De peste" (1644) und sein noch von Haller gelobtes Hauptwerk "Anatome corporis humani" (1672), "ein wirklich gutes Buch mit vielen originellen Mitteilungen auf dem Gebiete der physiolog. Anatomie und einigen interessanten chirurgischen Beobachtungen". Auch seine "Disputationes practicae" (1664) "verdienen geschätzt zu werden als Leitfaden für Vorlesungen" (Hirsch). Enthält ferner noch die "Observationes et curationes medicae centum". - Im Ganzen ein sehr wertvolles Kompendium mit vielen interessanten Forschungsergebnissen auf dem Gebiet der physiologischen Anatomie und Chirurgie. Das sehr schöne Porträt (oft fehlend) nach R. de Hooghe mit geklebtem Randeinriss, 1 Tafel mit Papierbruchstelle zwischen zwei Kupfern. Der Einband beschabt, Gelenke angebrochen, Kopfkapital etw. defekt. - Insgesamt sehr gutes, vor allem auch vollständiges Exemplar
Natural Sciences – Medicine. - With engraved title, magnificent folded copperplate portrait by J. Ebeling after Romeyn de Hooghe, and 16 folded copperplate illustrations. The writings of the eminent physician (1609-1674), professor of medicine in Utrecht, published posthumously by his son, had mostly appeared individually before, including the famous treatise "De peste" (1644) and his magnum opus "Anatome corporis humani" (1672), which was praised by Haller as "a truly good book with many original insights in the field of physiological anatomy and some interesting surgical observations." His "Disputationes practicae" (1664) "also deserve to be valued as a guide for lectures" (Hirsch). It also contains the "Observationes et curationes medicae centum." - Overall, a very valuable compendium with many interesting research findings in the field of physiological anatomy and surgery.The very beautiful portrait (often missing) after R. de Hooghe with glued edge tear, 1 plate with paper break between two copperplates. The binding is scuffed, joints broken, head capital somewhat defective. - Overall a very good, and above all complete, copy.
