Aufl. von Bd. 3). - Sehr selten mit dem vollständigen Satz Tafeln, für uns auf Auktion nur 3 Exemplare nachweisbar. - Die "Deliciae Physico-Mathematicae" wurden ursprünglich 1636 posthum in einem Band veröffentlicht, zusammengestellt vom Mathematiker und Orientalisten Daniel Schwenter und hg. von Georg Harsdörffer, zusammen mit Bernegger (dem Übersetzer von Galilei), einem Schüler des Ersteren. In den Jahren 1651 und 1653 fügte Harsdörffer zwei weitere Teile hinzu. Die Teile 1 und 2 wurden 1677 und Teil 3 1692 in der vorliegenden Form neu aufgelegt. - Zu den Höhepunkten des vorliegenden Werks für die Wissenschaftsgeschichte gehören: Die erste Anwendung der Kettenbrüche (nach Cantor). Huygens wurde dadurch angeregt, seine Theorie der Kettenbrüche zu formulieren. Band 2 enthält ein Kapitel über verschiedene optische Apparate mit Abbildungen einer Laterna Magica usw. - Der vorliegende Satz enthält alle 10 radierten bzw. Kupferstich- und Holzschnitt-Tafeln, d.h. 3 gestoch. Titel als Kupferradierungen (Bd. 1 sign. "Joh. Pfau", Bd. 3 sign. "Andr. Khol", 7 weit. Tafeln, (3 in Bd. 2, 4 in Bd. 3), davon 5 als Kupferstiche und 2 als Holzschnitte, davon 4 gefaltet und 3 mit Volvellen (Bd. 2, Bl. G1 und Sss2, Bd. 3 nach Bl. Q4, die beiden letzteren lose eingelegt bzw. separat eingebunden). - Provenienz: Rudolph Graf von Abensperg und Traun, österr. Uradel, mit dessen gestoch. illustr. Ex Libris unter Verwendung des Familienwappens auf dem Vorderspiegel u. hs. Besitzervermerk in Tinte darunter auf den Vorderspiegeln aller drei Bände. - Es fehlen Bd. 1, Bl. Gg (S. 225-232), Bd. 2, S. 165-170, 183-216, 325-334, 345-362, 385-414, 561-578 und S. (17-38) des Index. - Bd. 2, S. 323f. mit Fehlstellen. Einige Seiten stärker gebräunt. - Insgesamt aufgrund der sehr selten vollständig vorhandenen Tafeln und insbesondere der Volvellen und der noblen Provenienz trotz der fehlenden Seiten ein äußerst sammelwürdiges Exmplar.

Natural Sciences – Mathematics. - Schwenter's and Harsdörffer's profusely illustrated compendium on recreational mathematics, present set with a complete run of all etched, copper engraved and woodcut plates and also including the 3 moveables. - Smith, D.E. History of Mathmatics, vol. I, page 421. - Thorndike, History of Magic and Experimental Science, vol. VII, p. 54. - Very hard to find in trade, currently no copy of none of the volumes of the Endter imprint available, only 3 complete copies traceable for us at auctions. - The »Deliciae Physico-Mathematicae«, a legendary work of recreational mathematics in the baroque fashion, was originally published in one posthumous volume in 1636 compiled by mathematician and orientalist Daniel Schwenter and edited by Georg Harsdörffer, together with Bernegger (the translator of Galileo) a disciple of the former. In 1651 and 1653 Harsdörffer added two further parts. Parts 1 and 2 were reprinted in 1677 and part 3 in 1692, as present. - Among the highlights of present book for the history of science are: The first application of chain-fractions (according to Cantor). Huygens was stimulated to formulate his theory of chain-fractions by it. Vol. 2 contains a chapter on different optical apparatus with illustrations of a magic lantern, etc. - Present set contains a complete run of all 10 etched, copper engraved and woodcut plates, i.e. 3 etched pictorial titles (vol. 1 signed "Joh. Pfau", vol. 3 signed "Andr. Khol"), 7 further plates, (3 in vol. 2, 4 in vol. 3), where of 5 copper engraved and 2 wood-cuts, 4 of them folded and 3 with moveables (vol. 2, leaves G1 and Sss2, vol. 3, after leaf Q4, the two latter loosely inserted and bound in separately resp.) - Provenance: Rudolph Graf von Abensperg und Traun, Austrian aristocracy, with his engraved illustrated book-plate depicting the family coat of arms and his owner's remark in ink below on the front paste-downs of all volumes. - Missing vol. 1, sheet Gg (pp. 225-232), vol. 2, pp. 165-170, 183-216, 325-334, 345-362, 385-414, 561-578 and pp. 17-38 of the index. Vol. 2, pp. 323f. with faults, some pages heavily time-stained. - Due to a compete set of plates, the rarity and the noble provenance a highly collectable set, despite the missing pages.
