Jh. mit handschriftlichem Titelschild, die Decken mit Steinmarmorpapier überzogen, umseitig gesprenkelter Schnitt (stärker berieben, bestoßen).

Naturwissenschaften – Zweite Auflage des einflußreichen Werks über geometrisches Rechnen. - Poggendorff II, 780. - Zinner, Astronomische Instrumente, 499. - Cantor III, 37. - Beschreibt den Gebrauch eines von Scheffelt erfundenen Proportionalzirkels, "der den Neperschen Rechenstäben nachgebildet das Rechnen mit geometrischen Größen auf ein Ablesen zurückführte" (Cantor). - Michael Scheffelt (1652-1720) war Feuerwerker und Privatlehrer der Mathematik in Ulm, sowie ab 1717 Lector arithmetices. Seine Beschreibung des Proportionalzirkels folgt der Tradition von Galilei, Bernegger und Goldmann. Mit dem Vorort zur ersten Auflage von 1691 aus der Feder von Albert Veil und zweifarbig gedrucktem Titelblatt. - Provenienz: Königl. Sächs. Artillerie Akademie bzw. des Königl. Sächs. Artillerie-Corps, mit je einem Stempel auf dem Titelblatt, sowie ein weiterer adeliger Vorbesitzer mit dessen Stempel auf dem Titelblatt ("FA"). - Tafel 1 liegt in Kopie bei. - Vorderspiegel mit kaschiertem Ausschnitt der Bibliotheksordnung und Bibliothekssignatur. Innen leicht gebräunt sowie gering stock- und fingerfleckig. Einige Unterstreichungen und Marginalien von alter Hand. Insgesamt gut erhaltenes Exemplar des Rarums.

Natural Sciences – With 11 of 12 copper engraved plates. Bound in 18th century marbled boards, in parts strongly worn and bumped. - Second edition of this influential work on geometric calculation. Describes the use of a proportional compass invented by Scheffelt, "modeled on Neper's slide rules, which reduced calculations with geometric quantities to reading" (Cantor). - Michael Scheffelt (1652-1720) was a pyrotechnician and private mathematics teacher in Ulm, and from 1717 a lecturer in arithmetic. His description of the proportional compass follows the tradition of Galileo, Bernegger, and Goldmann. With a preface to the first edition of 1691, written by Albert Veil and title page printed in red and black. - Provenance: Royal Saxon Artillery Academy and the Royal Saxon Artillery Corps respectively, each with a stamp on the title page, as well as another noble previous owner with his owner's stamp on the title page ("FA"). - A copy of Plate 1 is enclosed. - The front cover has a concealed excerpt from the library regulations and library signature. The interior is slightly browned, with minor foxing and fingermarks. Some underlining and marginalia in an old hand. Overall, a well-preserved copy of this rare book.
