Manuskript des Geologie-Professors Emil Pollmar. Englische Handschrift auf Papier mit Wz. Mit gezeichneten Diagrammen, Karten und Illustrationen im Text sowie zahlr. Federzeichnungen auf 29 beiliegenden Blättern (11 x 9 cm). Detroit, um 1883. 1 Bl., 202 hs. pag. S., 2 Bl. Kl.-8°. HLdr. d. Zt. mit rot gesprenkeltem Schnitt u. Goldfileten (etw. berieben u. fleckig).

Geologie

Naturwissenschaften – Emil Pollmar (ca. 1834-1892) war Schulmeister und Professor für Geologie (höchstwahrscheinlich in seiner Heimatstadt Detroit, Michigan). Sein Sohn, F. Carl Pollmar, war ein bekannter Architekt in Detroit. - Vorliegendes vorwiegend englischsprachiges Unterrichtsheft des Geologieprofessors Emil Pollmar in leserlicher Handschrift ist in 18 "Lessons" unterteilt und in einer Kombination aus Englisch, Pitman-Kurzschrift und Deutsch verfasst. Die "Lessons" sind in die folgenden Abschnitte unterteilt: Geologie (S. 1-20), Mineralien, inkl. Feldspat, Albit, Labradorit, Glimmer, Magnesia, Hornblende, Augit, Granat, Kalzit, Dolomit und Gips (S. 10-20). - Erze, inkl. Pyrit, Kupferkies, Magnetit, Hämatit, Limonit, Siderit, Galenit, Argentit und Gold (S. 21-29), eine Vielzahl von Sediment-, metamorphen und magmatischen Gesteinen, darunter Kalkstein, Sandstein, Konglomerat, Schieferton, Schiefer, Granit, Gneis, Mikroschiefer, Syenit und Hornblendeschiefer (S. 30-38). - Magmatische Gesteine, mit einem Anhang zu Ton, Sand, Kies und Lehm, einschließlich Basalt, Lava, Diorit, Trachyt und Porphyr (S. 39-48). - Ungeschichtete oder magmatische Gesteine, metamorphe Gesteine ??und Adern (S. 48-58). - Historische Geologie, Archaikum, Paläozoikum und Silur-Formationen (S. 59-77). - Devon-Formationen (S. 77-89). - Karbon-Formationen (S. 90-119). - Jura-Formation (S. 120-137). - Kreide-Formation (S. 138-157). - Känozoikum (S. 158-178). - Quartär-Formation (S. 179-202). - Es folgt eine Übersicht über das Pflanzenreich und das Tierreich. - Die Zeichnungen (in aus dem hint. fl. Natural Sciences – Geology. - Lesson notebook in English from Professor of Geology, Emil Pollmar (c. 1834-1892) in a single legible hand containing a number of ink-drawn diagrams, maps, and illustrations within the text, and 30 numerated leaves (1 blank) with ink drawings on recto and manuscript notation in German on verso. Contemp. half leather with red speckled edges and gilt fillets (somewhat rubbed and stained). - Each numerated page in the journal is folded roughly 3 centimeters from the edge to allow for later marginalia of which there are some. Many leaves in the book bear the watermark, "Weston's Linen Record 1883." It is divided into 18 "lessons" and is written in a combination of English, Pitman shorthand, and German. The "lessons" are divided into the following sections: geology (pp. 1-20), minerals, incl. feldspar, albite, labradorite, mica, magnesia, hornblende, augite, garnet, calcite, dolomite, and gypsum (pp. 10-20). - Ores, incl. pyrite, copper pyrites, magnetite, hematite, limonite, siderite, galenite, argentite, and gold (pp. 21-29), a variety of sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks including limestone, sandstone, conglomerate, shale, slate, granite, gneiss, mic schist, syenite, and hornblende schist (pp. 30-38). - Igneous rocks, with an appendix on clay, sand, gravel, and loam, including basalt, lava, diorite, trachyte, and porphyry (pp. 39-48). - Unstratified or igneous rocks, metamorphic rocks, and veins (pp. 48-58). - Historical geology, Archaean time, Paleozoic, and Silurian formations (pp. 59-77). - Devonian formations (pp. 77-89). - Carboniferous formations (pp. 90-119). - Jura formation (pp. 120-137). - Cretaceous formation (pp. 138-157). - Cenozoic time (pp. 158-178). - Quaternary formation (pp. 179-202). - This is followed by a synopsis of the vegetable kingdom and of the animal kingdom. Pollmar was a schoolmaster and professor of Geology (most likely in his hometown, Detroit, Michigan) and died at the age of 58 in 1892. His son, F. Carl Pollmar was a notable architect in Detroit.
