Moderne Literatur und Kunst – Bolliger 7, 235. - Dok.-Bibl. VI, 45. - Kosch XXI, 660. - Die Lesbarkeit der Kunst (Kat. Berlin 1999) Nr. 21.

Modern Literature and Art – With 5 mounted illustrated section titles and 30 plates after drawings by Bruno Taut, of which 8 are coloured and partly heightened in gold and silver, plus 22 with mounted illustrations. Grey-blue original boards with cover illustration and spine title in silver blocking, additionally housed in a specially made private cardboard slipcase, likewise with cover illustration. Bolliger 7, 235. - Dok.-Bibl. VI, 45. - Kosch XXI, 660. - Die Lesbarkeit der Kunst (exhib. cat. Berlin 1999), no. 21. - First edition and one of the author's principal works. - Alpine Architektur is the central utopian-Expressionist portfolio publication by Bruno Taut (1880-1938), conceived between 1917 and 1919 and still markedly shaped by the architectural visions of Paul Scheerbart. In five conceptually interlinked parts - Crystal House, Mountain Architecture, Alpine Construction, Earth's Crust Construction, and Star Construction - Taut envisions a socially utopian transformation of the Alps into a glass, crystalline landscape of art, using the mountain peak itself as an architectural motif and extending the vision into cosmic dimensions. As a response to the experience of the First World War, the work stands as a prime example of the pacifist-visionary architectural literature of the early Weimar period and is regarded as "a highly significant work of architectural literature." - Spine unobtrusively restored at the foot, front board marginally water-stained at the lower edge, backing boards somewhat browned, nevertheless a good copy.
