Nietzscheana - Sammlung Dite

Philosophie und Soziologie – Äußerst seltene Erstausgabe des ultimativen Pamphlets Nietzsches gegen Wagner. - Schaberg 57 und S. 229ff. (mit Abb. auf S. 233). - Krummel I, AD. - WNB 320. - Wilpert/Gühring 25. - Nicht in Slg. Borst. - In wenigen Rändern minimal stockfleckig, durchgehend papierbedingt gebräunt.

Philosophy and Sociology – The extremely rare first edition of Nietzsche's definitive pamphlet against Wagner. In the original publisher's wrappers with black cover title (front cover skilfully restored at the spine and on the top and bottom margins along the fold, throughout, naturally yellowed due to the paper.) - Nietzsche compiled this text, an adapted version of his remarks on Wagner dating from the 1870s, in December 1888. It was to be the last work whose proofs he corrected entirely himself. Around the turn of the year 1888/89, he succumbed to mental derangement in Turin. - One of only 100 copies of a private print commissioned by his inner circle, which - due to its controversial content - was not originally intended for publication at all, did not go on sale, but was distributed to Nietzsche's friend Overbeck and his secretary Gast. Eighty copies ended up in the Nietzsche Archive and were later often given away as gifts by its director, Nietzsche's sister Elisabeth Förster, often with a personal dedication. The first publicly available edition of the pamphlet was not to appear until five years later. - Title page with a four-line dedication in ink, dated 1938. - Minimal foxing in some margins, time-stained throughout due to the nature of the paper. Overall, a well-preserved, partly uncut copy of this extremely rare work, which is almost impossible to find in well preserved original publisher's wrappers, as is the case here.
