Literatur des 17. bis 19. Jahrhunderts – Erste Ausgabe. - VD17 3:018957E - Dünnhaupt, 3849, 1.4 - Schupp war Professor der Geschichte und Rhetorik in Marburg, seit 1643 auch Pastor an der Elisabethkirche. 1647-48 nahm er als Delegierter des Landgrafen an den Friedensverhandlungen in Münster teil, wo er 1648 die beiden Friedenspredigten hielt. Obwohl er auch Gedichte geschrieben hat, liegt seine Stärke in der Prosa. Es handelt sich dabei um Moral- und Zeitsatiren. Sie richtet sich gegen Lügenhaftigkeit, Angeberei und Üppigkeit (Gesch. d. fr. Neuzeit). - Johann Balthasar S., vor allem als Satyriker bekannt, aber auch als praktischer Theologe und als Pädagoge von nicht geringer Bedeutung (ausführlich ADB 33, S. 66-77). - Titel etwas gebräunt u. fleckig, mit kleiner überklebter Fehlstelle im rechten Außenrand.

Cont. vellum. - The title page is slightly discolored and stained, with a small missing section on the right outer edge that has been covered with tape.
