Barock
Literature of 17th to 19th Century – First edition of this rare work, printed in an unusually large typeface to facilitate reading by candlelight or in the nave of a church. - VD18 13063030. - With numerous interesting engraved plates. In addition to various devotional texts, it also contains prayers for confession and communion (Methodo Confitendi, ac Communicandi), expressly compiled from the posthumous manuscripts and original writings of Saint Francis de Sales and supplemented with further spiritual texts. It thus conveys the celebrated, practical piety of the Bishop of Geneva-best known through his Philothea-to Baroque Central Europe. Frontispiece and title page mounted, engraved plates partly closely trimmed at the lower margin, old manuscript annotations on the title page. A few leaves discreetly repaired in the margins, overall, a well-preserved copy.
