Geographie und Reisen – Vgl. Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Inv.-Nr. 11.36527. - Insgesamt gut.

Geography and Travel – Polychrome woodblock print (nishiki-e) on paper, vertical oban format. Signed lower left Ichiyusai Kuniyoshi ga, with red kiri seal, publisher's seal Iseya Ichibei (Iseichi), and censor's seal Watari. Cf. Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, acc. no. 11.36527. The print combines an allusion to the chapter "Kocho" ("Butterflies") from the Genji monogatari with a dramatic, contemporaneously interpreted theatrical scene involving Abe no Yasuna. The composition depicts Yasuna in elaborately patterned robes and holding a fan, while two butterflies flutter above him, at right, a second figure, characterized as a warrior, intervenes in the action. With a horizontal fold through the centre of the image, age toning, minimal browning, and occasional colour rubbing. Overall in good condition.
