Naturwissenschaften – Erstdruck der klassischen Beschreibung von "Harley's disease", "Harley's classic description of paroxysmal haemoglobinuria" (Garrison/Morton 4171). - "Es kann nicht oft genug betont werden, daß die sinnliche Wahrnehmung des dunklen Urins am Anfang dieses Wissensgebietes stand. Zu Recht hebt Dacie in seiner Einleitung die merkwürdige Tatsache hervor, daß es die - nach heutiger Sicht - extrem seltenen Bilder der Kältehämoglobinurie und der PNH waren, die unser Wissen über die Hämolyse eröffneten. Man kann sich des Eindrucks kaum erwehren, als sei bei den Praktikern ein Damm gebrochen, nachdem Georges Harley am 9. Mai 1865 seinen Fall vor der Royal Society in London vorgetragen hatte" (Voswinckel, Der schwarze Urin, S. 111 f.). - Auch Anton Dressler und George Harley, die beiden Erstbeschreiber, nach denen die Erkrankung später benannt wurde, hielten sich im damaligen Zentrum der naturwissenschaftl. Medizin in Würzburg auf, beide waren Mitglieder in der Würzburger Physikalisch-Medizinischen Gesellschaft. - Kompletter Band mit zahlr. Orig.-Abhandlungen, mit zahlr. Abbildungen. - Gutes Exemplar.
