Mode
Modern Literature and Art – Collection with 97 fashion drawings. Pencil and coloured pencil, partly cut out and backed on the verso with fabric samples, as well as chalk or grease pencil sketches, embroideries and appliqués on various wove papers. Some signed "Vospel". Loose in a cardboard folder. -Extensive, coherent group of works by a single hand, with designs for cocktail dresses, suits, dresses and coats, complete with hats and accessories, in the style of Parisian haute couture around 1960. The designs make explicit reference to the House of Dior: several sketches bear handwritten working notes such as "Dior-Rock" (Dior skirt) or "Dior-Falte" (Dior pleat), deliberately adopting characteristic cuts and pleating solutions of the Parisian fashion house, such as the narrow-waisted, full-swinging skirts in the tradition of the New Look. Further notes on construction details, such as "Hinten tiefe Falte und langer Zipp" (deep pleat and long zip at the back), attest to the working character of the folder. The finished sheets are collaged with original fabric samples, used partly as abstract fields of colour and partly as elements of the garments. - Paper partly slightly browned and stained, occasionally creased and with small marginal defects, fabric samples partly detached or with frayed edges. Folder heavily rubbed and torn. Overall in good condition, with expressive and stylishly designed compositions.
