Modern Literature and Art – 3 leaves of text and 50 loose plates, 11 of them coloured in pochoir. Folio. Original half-cloth portfolio with typographic cover title and ties. - (Portfolio heavily browned and stained, cloth spine fully detached and largely disintegrated, covers loose, corners bumped, in places heavily, with some losses, ties only partially preserved.) Magnificent impressions of the abstract compositions, with margins and fresh, vivid colours. An important portfolio of modern textile art from the interwar period, edited and introduced by Sonia Delaunay. Delaunay was herself a leading figure of Simultanism and was already a successful textile designer. The plates present carpets and fabrics by the international avant-garde, including works by Sonia Delaunay, Eileen Gray and Fernand Léger. The Bauhaus circle is represented by Anni Albers, Martha Erps and Ruth Valentin, among others, and the Wiener Werkstätte circle by Josef Hoffmann and Dagobert Peche. The portfolio thus presents Delaunay's own designs not as a sideline to her painting. By placing them next to the work of other textile designers, it shows how geometric abstraction entered the applied arts. The pochoir-coloured plates reproduce the colours of the originals with particular brilliance. Plates from the portfolio were shown at MoMA in the 2025 exhibition "Woven Histories". The portfolio is volume 15 of the 20-volume series "L'Art international d'aujourd'hui", in which each volume contains 50 plates. - Paper of the plates browned, edges partly slightly bumped. Still in good condition overall. - Paper of the plates browned, edges slightly bumped in places. Overall still in good condition. Splendid impressions of the abstract compositions with margins, the colours fresh and vivid.
