Deutsche Nachkriegsmoderne
Online - Modern and Contemporary Art – Watercolour on Hahnemühle handmade paper (with watermark). Signed and dated. - Margins with very slight tears, verso with traces of studio use, light stains and marks from previous mounting. Overall in good condition. With deckle edge on all sides. - On the verso with estate stamp. - This work was created in the year Berke became a member of the artists' group 'ZEN'. Informal works characterise large parts of his oeuvre. As Berke said in 1953: 'You want to know why I want to paint abstractly. The civilised world is worn out and barren on the surface, generally, a rigid, mask-like quality is evident, the world of the outward human being lacks humanity. So we must give form to the forces that work behind the outward appearances of things.'
