Edition Schellmann, München/New York. - Bronx I grteift auf das Prinzip der Stereofotos, die Thomas Ruff Mitte der 90er Jahre produzierte: Zwei nahezu identische Luftaufnahmen desselben Stadtviertels ahmen die leicht versetzte Perspektive des linken und rechten Auges nach. Betrachtet man die Bilder mit einem Stereobetrachter, verschmelzen sie zu einer immersiven dreidimensionalen Szene, und dokumentarische Stadtphotographie wird zur körperlich erfahrbaren Wahrnehmung. Ruff macht damit sichtbar, dass Sehen kein neutraler Akt ist, sondern ein konstruktiver Prozess, der im Gehirn stattfindet.

When viewed through a stereoscope, the images merge into an immersive three-dimensional scene, transforming documentary urban photography into a physically tangible experience. In doing so, Ruff reveals that seeing is not a neutral act, but a constructive process that takes place in the brain.
