Lot 441 Mel Ramos. Hav-A-Havana #3. 1999. …

Hav-A-Havana #3. 1999. Farblithographie und -serigraphie auf festem Velinkarton. 57,5 x 57,5 cm. Signiert und nummeriert. Mit dem Trockenstempel des Druckers. Punktuell auf Unterlage montiert. - Insgesamt ausgeprochen gutes und sauberes Exemplar.

Pop Art – Hilger/Zwingenberger GL 1-9.

Pop Art – Colour lithograph and screen print on sturdy vellum. Signed and numbered. Bearing the printer's dry stamp. Mounted in places. - Overall, a very fine and clean copy. - One of 199 copies. - In the Hav-A-Havana series, which Ramos developed in numerous variations from 1996 onwards, the female nude figure swaps the usual consumer goods such as a bottle of cola, a chocolate bar or a doughnut for a Havana cigar. The cigar, imbued with the significance of a lust object since Freud, is both a colonial symbol of prestige and a sign of masculinity. Ramos has the nude figure play with it, thereby reversing the conventional roles. What the artist himself described as an 'absurdist conjunction' in the surrealist sense can equally be read as a reflection of the mechanisms of advertising and the mass media.
