Pop Art – Die Velin-Lithographien im Stuttgarter Katalog markieren den Übergang von Warhols handkolorierten Zeichnungen der frühen 1950er Jahre - Love is a Pink Cake, In the Bottom of My Garden - zur serialisierten Editions-Logik des Ausstellungsbetriebs, wobei das industrielle Papier selbst diesen Wandel bezeugt. Die Farblithographien auf Goldpapier hingegen zitieren direkt A Gold Book (1957), Warhols intimste Selbstpublikation, deren schimmernder Träger Zeichnungen von Engeln, Knaben und Blumen in sakral-dekorative Objekte verwandelte. Gold durchzieht Warhols Gesamtwerk als Kontinuum - von den goldfolienverzierten I.-Miller-Schuhanzeigen bis zu den vergoldeten Factory-Celebrities - und funktioniert stets als Material gewordene Ambiguität: Luxus und erotische Camouflage, Dekorativität als zugleich verschleiernde und affirmierende Strategie homosexueller Desire-Ästhetik. Crone überführt damit das Goldpapier des Katalogs in ein kunsthistorisches Argument: Es ist kein buchgestalterischer Schmuck, sondern die komprimierte Signatur eines Selbstmythologisierungsprozesses, der in Warhols Frühwerk grundgelegt und im Spätwerk zu industrieller Perfektion getrieben wurde.
