Pop Art – Eines von 200 Exemplaren. - Die Arbeit zeigt zwei eng aneinandergerückte Frauen, deren Körper in flächig gesetzten Leuchtfarben erscheinen, während Fächer und gespritzte Farbflecken eine dichte, fast tropische Bildatmosphäre erzeugen, in der ein leuchtend grüner Grashüpfer als pointiertes Detail die Sensualität der Szene ironisch akzentuiert. Ting verbindet hier sein charakteristisches Repertoire - weibliche Figuren, Tiere, Blumen und dekorative Ornamente - zu einem hedonistischen Farbrausch, der an Matisse, Pop Art und die kalligraphische Gestik chinesischer Tuschemalerei gleichermaßen anschließt. Kunsthistorisch steht das Blatt in der Phase ab Mitte der 1970er Jahre, in der Ting seine zuvor informell-abstrakte Bildsprache zu einem populären Figuratismus weiterentwickelte und weibliche Körper, oft mit Fächern, Vögeln oder Insekten, zu Trägern einer lustvollen, "paradiesischen" Ikonographie machte. Zugleich manifestiert sich in der flächigen, plakathaften Farbigkeit und der serigraphisch wirkenden Brillanz der Lithographie Tings Rolle als Vermittler zwischen europäischem CoBrA-Gestus, amerikanischer Pop-Ästhetik und einem transkulturellen, von Exil und Migration geprägten Selbstverständnis. Im Gesamtwerk kann man das Blatt daher als exemplarisch für Tings späten Stil lesen, in dem die erotisierte Darstellung des Weiblichen, die anarchische Freude an der Farbe und die Durchdringung östlicher und westlicher Bildtraditionen zu einem eigenständigen, heute kunsthistorisch neu bewerteten Kosmos der Sinnlichkeit verschmelzen.

Signed and numbered. - Verso with copyright stamp and pencil numbering. Splendid impression, remarkably intense in color and rich in contrast, with wide margins. One of 200 impressions. - The work shows two closely nestled women whose bodies appear in flatly applied luminous colors, while fans and splashes of paint create a dense, almost tropical pictorial atmosphere in which a bright green grasshopper, as a pointed detail, ironically accentuates the sensuality of the scene. Here Ting fuses his characteristic repertoire - female figures, animals, flowers, and decorative ornaments - into a hedonistic outburst of color that recalls Matisse, Pop Art, and the calligraphic gesture of Chinese ink painting in equal measure. From an art-historical perspective, the sheet belongs to the phase beginning in the mid-1970s, when Ting developed his previously informel-abstract visual language into a popular figurative style and turned female bodies, often with fans, birds, or insects, into bearers of a lustful, "paradisiacal" iconography. At the same time, the flat, poster-like chromaticity and the screenprint-like brilliance of the lithograph embody Ting's role as a mediator between the European CoBrA gesture, American Pop aesthetics, and a transcultural self-conception shaped by exile and migration. Within his oeuvre, the sheet can thus be read as exemplary of Ting's late style, in which the eroticized depiction of the feminine, the anarchic delight in color, and the interpenetration of Eastern and Western pictorial traditions merge into an autonomous cosmos of sensuality that is being newly reassessed in art-historical discourse today.
