Catalogo ragionato di pittura, architettura e grafica 1926-1979, 52. - Doppio sogno nell'arte. 2RC tra artista e artefice, 260. - Hier zeigt sich Pasmores typische abstrakte Bildsprache der 1970er Jahre: Eine großflächige, in sattem, matt-opakem Chromgelb gehaltene organische Form dominiert die linke Bildhälfte - gleichmäßig und ohne Verläufe gesetzt, dabei in jener für die Aquatinta charakteristischen samtigen Ausflockung, die der Fläche durch einen feinen, körnigen Schmelz atmosphärische Tiefe und ein leises inneres Vibrieren verleiht. Begleitet wird sie von zurückhaltenden Elementen rechts: einem dicht-deckenden tiefschwarzen Oval, einer filigranen Linienspur mit kleinen Knoten - die den Ätzcharakter der Nadel sichtbar werden lässt - sowie einem weich-lasierenden warmgrauen Oval, das fast steinig wirkt und den schwebenden, sphärischen Bildraum des Blattes mitbegründet. Ein kleiner karminroter Ring auf der gelben Form fungiert als präziser kompositorischer Akzent, ein stilles "Auge", das die Bildspannung zentriert. Das cremeweißen Blatt ist dabei kein neutraler Träger, sondern aktiver Bildgrund: Pasmore überträgt malerische Werte in das graphische Medium - die Farbflächen tasten sich dem Ätzprozess folgend organisch in den Raum vor, und die Spannung zwischen geometrischer Absicht und drucktechnischer Zufälligkeit erzeugt eine Qualität, die sonst der Malerei vorbehalten scheint. Diese Kompositionsweise entwickelte Pasmore ab den 1960er Jahren konsequent weiter, beeinflusst von seiner Übersiedlung nach Malta 1965 und dem mediterranen Licht, das sich im leuchtenden Goldgelb und dem wolkenhaften Ausbreiten der Aquatinta-Töne unmittelbar spiegelt.

Signed, dated and numbered. - A magnificent print that captures the picturesque beauty of color gradations, with a wide margin. - This work exemplifies Pasmore's typical abstract visual language of the late 1970s to 1990s: a large organic form in saturated, matt-opaque chrome yellow dominates the left half of the composition - applied evenly and without gradation, yet rendered in that velvety, flocculent quality characteristic of aquatint, which lends the surface an atmospheric depth and a quiet inner vibration through its fine, granular bloom. It is accompanied by restrained elements to the right: a dense, opaque deep-black oval, a delicate line trace with small nodes - which reveals the etched character of the needle - and a softly glazed warm-grey oval that appears almost stone-like, contributing to the hovering, spherical pictorial space of the sheet. A small carmine-red ring on the yellow form serves as a precise compositional accent, a quiet "eye" that centres the pictorial tension. The cream-white sheet is no neutral support but an active ground: Pasmore translates painterly values into the graphic medium - the colour fields advance organically into space in accordance with the etching process, and the tension between geometric intention and the contingencies of printing technique produces a quality that would otherwise seem reserved for painting alone. Pasmore developed this compositional approach consistently from the 1960s onwards, shaped by his move to Malta in 1965 and the Mediterranean light that is directly mirrored in the luminous gold-yellow and the cloud-like spread of the aquatint tones.
