Lot 364 Hanne Darboven. Harburg Sand. 1988. …

Harburg Sand. 1988. Farbserigraphie und Lichtdruck auf Rives Velin. 57 x 59,5 cm (97 x 80 cm). Signiert und nummeriert. - Insgesamt sehr gut.

Konzeptkunst – Schellmann 1988.03. - Eines von 75 Exemplaren. - Hg. Edition Schellmann, München/New York.

Conceptual Art – Colour screen print and photolithograph on handmade paper. Signed and numbered. - Overall, very good. Excellent impression with a grainy, velvety finish and a wide margin, topped with a scoop margin. - One of 75 copies. - Published by Edition Schellmann, Munich/New York. - The work is part of the collection of the MoMA, New York. - This work by Hanne Darboven brings together the two central strands of her oeuvre: serial structure and writing as a measure of time. Six identical postcard images of a Hamburg suburb are arranged in a regular grid, suggesting a temporal sequence even though the image itself does not change. Time is made visible not by the motif, but by the handwritten entries. The superimposed texts, dated from 12 to 17 June 1988, combine everyday observations with Darboven's characteristic method of date addition: by systematically calculating numerical values from dates, she made time both calculable and, at the same time, intangible. The crossed-out word "today" encapsulates the core paradox of her work, for the present moment has already passed the instant it is fixed.
