Obwohl das Früchtestillleben auf eine lange kunsthistorische Tradition zurückblickt und es seit jeher als Symbole für Wohlstand, Fülle und Vergänglichkeit fungieren, greift Kneffel dieses scheinbar erzählerisch ausgeschöpfte Genre gezielt auf. Indem sie es in den Mittelpunkt ihres Werks stellt, verleiht sie ihm innerhalb der zeitgenössischen Kunst neue Relevanz. Durch die monumentale Vergrößerung eines stark begrenzten Bildausschnitts und dessen Übertragung in ein überdimensionales Format erzeugt sie eine subtile Verfremdung des mit beeindruckender fotorealistischer Genauigkeit dargestellten Objekts.

In a deceptively realistic manner, Kneffel constructs her pictorial spaces through extreme cropping and a variable interplay of proximity and distance. Although the fruit still life has a long-standing art-historical tradition and appears to have exhausted its narrative potential, Kneffel deliberately places this genre at the center of her artistic practice, thereby granting it renewed relevance within contemporary art. By concentrating on a small section of the image and translating it into a monumental format, she achieves a subtle estrangement of the object, which is rendered with impressive photorealistic precision.
