Zeitgenössische Kunst – In der Serie breath visualisiert Wolfgang Flad den Atemrhythmus als künstlerisches Prinzip. Das Einatmen und Ausatmen findet sein formales Äquivalent in zwei kontrastierenden Bildhälften, die auf einem einzigen Blatt unmittelbar aufeinandertreffen: Einer Seite mit ruhigem Farbverlauf steht eine Fläche entgegen, die in organischen Blasen- und Kraterformen in intensivem Blau aufbricht. Die Monotypie bringt dabei eine Unmittelbarkeit und prozessuale Offenheit mit, die das malerische Geschehen als etwas Atmendes, Lebendiges erscheinen lässt und den für Flads Werk charakteristischen Grenzbereich zwischen den Medien sichtbar macht.

Mounted in spots on underlying mat and framed under glass. - Very good and immaculately fine. - In the series "breath", Wolfgang Flad visualises the rhythm of breathing as an artistic principle: inhalation and exhalation find their formal equivalent in two contrasting halves of the image, which meet directly on a single sheet of paper. One side shows a calm colour gradient, whilst the other explodes into organic bubble- and crater-like forms in intense blue. In doing so, Flad operates within his characteristic grey area between media: the monotype brings with it an immediacy and processual openness that makes the painterly process appear as something that breathes and is alive.
