Zeitgenössische Kunst – Eines von 10 unikatären Exemplaren. - Die vorliegende Arbeit spiegelt das Kernthema des Berliner Duos Martin Bauer und Maj Mlakar, das (vormals unter dem Namen MMachine) an der Schnittstelle von maschineller Ausführung und malerischem Gestus arbeitet. Mittels eines computergesteuerten Plotters werden Ölfarben auf beschichtetes Velin aufgetragen, wodurch die individuelle Handschrift sich nicht in der Ausführung zeigt, sondern im Algorithmus, der die Malerei erzeugt, jedoch ohne dabei die sinnliche Qualität des Mediums aufzugeben. So bewegt sich die vorliegende Arbeit im Spannungsfeld zwischen Konzeptkunst und gestischer Malerei und knüpft an Diskurse an, die von der Minimal Art bis zur zeitgenössischen Generativen Kunst reichen.

Fascinating effect of the plotted oil painting. - One of 10 unique copies. - This work reflects the central theme of the Berlin-based duo Martin Bauer and Maj Mlakar, who (formerly known as MMachine) work at the interface between mechanical execution and painterly gesture. Using a computer-controlled plotter, oil paints are applied to coated vellum, meaning that the individual artistic signature is not evident in the execution itself, but rather in the algorithm that generates the painting, whilst without sacrificing the sensory quality of the medium. Thus, this work navigates the tension between conceptual art and gestural painting, drawing on discourses ranging from Minimal Art to contemporary generative art.
