Klassische Moderne – Aus dem Nachlass. Vgl.: Richter, Nr. 40. Die Grafik basiert auf einem Originalentwurf aus dem Jahr 1929. 1976 legte die Edition G.A. Richter das Motiv als Lithografie für das Mappenwerk "Orbis sensualium pictus" neu auf. Limitiert auf 38 Exemplaren + 4 E.A.. - Der Tanzmeister gehört zu Christian Schads figurativen Studien, in denen er historische Bild- und Rollenmuster in die Gegenwart der Weimarer Republik überführt. Ausgangspunkt ist das klassische Berufsbild des barocken Tanzmeisters, das Schad bewusst zitiert und zugleich verfremdet. Die biedere Figur des Tanzlehrers wird auf die Akteure des modernen Berliner Nachtlebens übertragen, wodurch eine subtile Parodie auf Rollenbilder und soziale Inszenierung entsteht.

Overall in very good condition. Splendid print with precise linework.- Sheet directly from the estate. - Cf.: Richter, no. 40. The print is based on an original design from 1929. 1976 the G.A. Richter edition reissued the motif as a lithograph for the portfolio Orbis sensualium pictus. Limited to 38 copies plus 4 E.A..- Further information see above.
