Neue Sachlichkeit
Classical Modernism – New Objecivity. - Pencil on thin wove paper. Signed and dated. - Recto and verso with mounting traces in the corners. Slightly toned within the former passe-partout opening. Two barely noticeable pinholes in the upper left and lower right areas of the image. Overall in good condition. Superb, highly delicate drawing with subtle modelling and fine tonal gradation. - From the artist's estate. - Portraits constitute an important aspect of Christian Schad's late oeuvre. His pencil drawings are distinguished by an exceptionally precise line and subtle tonal transitions. In the portraits of the 1960s, the characteristic clarity of his New Objectivity style is combined with an increasingly concentrated and intimate conception of the portrait subject.
