Klassische Moderne – Die in Paris geborene und lange in Berlin lebende Künstlerin zeichnete sich durch ihren beobachtenden Blick aus, der skurrile, verletzliche wie selbstbewusste Szenen und Milieuschilderungen nuanciert festhielt. Insbesondere bei den Darstellungen von Frauen in Portraits oder Akten emanzipiert Mammen das Bild der neuen Frau, die sich nicht nur zum männlichen Geschlecht hingezogen fühlt, sondern auch selbstbestimmt agiert und den männlichen durch den weiblichen Blick ersetzt. Die Frauen bei Jeanne Mammen sind starke und aktive Teilnehmerinnen am Berliner Leben - die Künstlerin hat dafür große Sympathien. Die vorliegende Arbeit, auf der die Frau selbstsicher und auf dem Stuhl stehend die gesamte Darstellung erfüllt, zeigt Mammens Empathie ohne voyeuristisch zu sein.
