Lot 274 Wassily Kandinsky.
Insgesamt in sehr gutem Zustand.
Classical Modernism – 4 works. 3 woodcuts in black and white and 1 color woodcut in red and blue on wove paper. - Each with production-related torn edge from the original periodical binding at the left margin. Verso partially with light foxing, margins partly minimally discolored due to age. Overall in very good condition. Splendid, strong impressions from the original woodblocks with crisp linear definition. Roethel: 111, 145, 105 and 201 (color woodcut). Printed by Mourlot Frères, Paris. Published for Éditions XXe Siècle, San Lazzaro, Paris, 1938-1939. Includes the subjects: "Schwarzer Fleck", "Reiterweg", "Motiv aus Improvisation 25" and "Komposition für XXe Siècle (1939)". The sheets originate from the rare series of original woodcuts published during the artist's lifetime. They powerfully document Kandinsky's seminal late period and his transition toward biomorphic abstraction.
