Lot 272 Alberto Giacometti. Lithographie nach einer …

Lithographie nach einer Original-Zeichnung. In: Tristan Tzara. Ramures. 1936. Lithographie auf festem, geglättetem Vélin. 24,8 x 19 cm. - Prächtiger Druck in schwarzem, konstrastigem Schwarz.

Klassische Moderne – Koepplin, Giacometti, 127. - Tristan Tzara, Les livres, 7. - Wohlerhalten.

Classical Modernism – Lithograph based on an original drawing by Alberto Giacometti. In: Tristan Tzara. Ramures. 1936. Lithograph on sturdy, smoothed vélin. 24.8 x 19 cm. - A magnificent print in rich, high-contrast black. - One of 70 copies on Normandy vellum, hand-signed and numbered by the printer in the colophon. Published by GLM in Paris as the 11th volume of the 'repères' collection. - Avant-garde poetry collection by Dada founder Tristan Tzara (1896-1963), featuring fragmentary, vivid verses on nature, destruction and revolution. The congenial original drawing by Alberto Giacometti, accentuated with ascetic lines, highlights the ramure-like (branch-like) themes of Tzara's text, a milestone in modernist poetry. 'Ramures' ("branches" or 'woodland') evokes branching, organic imagery that reflects Tzara's break with the pure nihilism of the Dada era. - In a hand-bound white half-leather binding of white goatskin with a gold-stamped title on the spine and inlaid coloured papers in burgundy and black (probably from the circle of the bookbinder Pierre-Lucien Martin). Highly prized among collectors, especially when luxuriously bound as here. - In very good condition.
