Der Abend, aus: Ein Dorf, Blatt III. 1919. Holzschnitt auf JWZanders-Bütten (m. Wz.). 31,8 x 38,8 cm (37,6 x 45,3 cm). Signiert, datiert und nummeriert sowie bezeichnet "Reiberdruck F. Voigt". Punktuell unter Passepartout montiert. - Papier technikbedingt ganz leicht gewellt, sehr vereinzelte, sehr leichte und kaum sichtbare Griff-/Knickspur, vereinzelte, sehr leichte durckbedingte Quetchfalte, verso im Oberrand vereinzelte, sehr blasse Spuren eh. Montierung, im äußersten Unterrand mittig punktueller Braunfleck, insgesamt sehr gut. Prachtvoller, texturiert satter und kontrastreicher Druck mit Rand.

Neumann, Berlin. - Pechstein hält in mehreren Holzschnitten des Mappenwerks "Dorf" das ländliche Leben vermutlich aus der Umgebung von Buchholz am Ratzeburger See fest, wo er sich im Frühjahr 1919 bei dem Maler Hermann Münchhausen aufhält. Zu jener Zeit ist Heckel winters in Berlin, sommers im Freien an der Ostsee oder auf dem Land, der Wechsel von der pulsierenden Großstadt in das ruhige Landleben schlägt sich in seinen Arbeiten nieder. In "Abend" ist eine Viehweide zu erkennen, deren Zentrum eine Figur bildet, die, auf einem Schemel sitzend, dem Melken zugewandt ist. Kraftvolle Sonnenstrahlen breiten sich einem gleißenden Spektrum gleich aus und erfüllen die idyllische Szenerie. Besonders augenscheinlich ist der kraftvolle Kontrast zwischen Schwarz und Weiß, den Heckel mittels der Technik des Holzschnitts eindrücklich erreicht. Als Reiberdruck ausgeführt, erfährt das Blatt eine ausgesprochen satte Textur, in der sich künstlerisches Handwerk und bildnerisches Narrativ zu einer detailreich ausgearbeiteten Komposition verdichten.

Neumann, Berlin. - In several woodcuts from the portfolio "Dorf" Pechstein captures rural life, presumably from the area around Buchholz on Lake Ratzeburg, where he was staying with the painter Hermann Münchhausen in the spring of 1919. At that time, Heckel spent his winters in Berlin and his summers outdoors by the Baltic Sea or in the countryside, the transition from the bustling city to the tranquil rural life is reflected in his works. In "Abend" (Evening), a cattle pasture can be seen, at the centre of which is a figure sitting on a stool, facing the milking. Powerful rays of sunlight spread out like a glistening spectrum, filling the idyllic scene. Particularly striking is the powerful contrast between black and white, which Heckel achieves impressively through the technique of woodcut. Executed as a rubbing print, the sheet takes on a distinctly rich texture, in which artistic craftsmanship and pictorial narrative coalesce into a richly detailed composition.
