Alexander und Diogenes. 1894. Kaltnadel auf festem Velin. 33,3 x 42 cm (43,2 x 51,7 cm). Signiert sowie in der Platte monogrammiert und datiert. - Geglättete Knickspur in unterer linker Ecke sowie im mittleren Unterrand, verso ganz vereinzelter, winziger und blasser Braunfleck, oben mittig bis rechts punktuelle blasse, druckbedingte Farbspur, insgesamt sehr gut. Prachtvoller, feinliniger und kontrastreicher Druck der mehrfiguren, antiken Szenerie, mit blind druckender Facette und fein zeichnender Plattenkante, mit breitem Rand, unten mit dem Schöpfrand.

Klassische Moderne – Schwarz 5 VI. - Darstellung einer der meistdiskutierten Anekdoten der historischen Philosophie, in der sich Alexander der Große und Diogenes in Korinth treffen. Der Frage Alexanders des Großen nachgehend, was er für den bescheiden lebenden Philosophen Diogenes tun könne, antwortet dieser lediglich, dass er ihm aus der Sonne gehen möge.

Signed as well as monogrammed and dated in the plate. - Smmothened crease mark in lower left corner as well as in middle lower margin, verso very isolated, tiny and faint brown stain, isolated faint colour trace in upper middle to right, due to technique, all in all very good. Splendid, finely-drawn and contrast-rich impression of the multi-figured, antique scenery, with blindly impressed facet and finely drawn plate mark, with wide margin, deckle edge at bottom.
