International Post War – José Luis Zumeta gehört zur baskischen Nachkriegskunst und zur Gruppe GAUR, die seit den 1960er Jahren eine eigenständige abstrakte Bildsprache entwickelt hat. Seine Malerei ist stark gestisch und prozessorientiert. Charakteristisch ist die Spannung zwischen spontaner Geste und innerer kompositorischer Ordnung. Farbe dient bei ihm nicht der Darstellung, sondern als autonomes Ausdrucksmittel emotionaler und energetischer Zustände.
