East German Art – Oil on canvas. Monogrammed and dated. Verso titled, dated and inscribed. Framed. - Some minor surface abrasion. Overall in very good condition. A splendid work with richly impastoed brushwork. - Annette Schröter, born in Meissen in 1956, studied under Bernhard Heisig at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig from 1977 to 1982. She later held a professorship in painting and graphic art there herself. Her early paintings are characterised by a thick, sometimes relief-like brushstroke, through which bodies, landscapes and spaces frequently oscillate between figuration and abstract composition. Later, Schröter consistently expanded her work to include paper-cutting and cut-out techniques, with the reduction to line, surface and silhouette always playing a central role.
