Deutsche Nachkriegsmoderne – Galerie Eigen + Art, Leipzig/Berlin. - Frühes Gemälde von Carsten Nicolai, das zur Zeit der Gründung seines Labels noton entstand und somit die Übergangsphase von der Malerei zur Konzept- und Klangkunst an der Schnittstelle von bildender Kunst, Musik und Naturwissenschaft dokumentiert. Auf einen hell-monochromen, aus auf die Leinwand aufgebrachten Papierschichten setzt Nicolai mit energischem Pinselduktus eine abstrakte Kopffigur in Kombination mit weiteren zeichenhaften Motiven. Text und Bild stehen in produktiver Spannung zueinander, indem das Wort "Kopf" zugleich benannt und verfremdet wird und sich die Darstellung so einer eindeutigen Lesbarkeit entzieht.

Framed with a black shadow gap. - A few small spots and scuffs. Overall, very good condition. Galerie Eigen + Art, Leipzig/Berlin. - An early painting by Carsten Nicolai, created around the time he founded his label noton, thus documenting his transition from painter to conceptual and sound artist at the intersection of visual art, music and science. On a light monochrome background created by layers of paper applied to the canvas, Nicolai uses energetic brushstrokes to depict an abstract head figure combined with other symbolic motifs. Text and image exist in a productive tension with one another, as the word 'Kpf' simultaneously names and alienates, whilst the motif eludes unambiguous legibility.
