Lot 104 Carsten Nicolai. Kopf. 1994/1995. Öl und …

Kopf. 1994/1995. Öl und Papier auf Leinwand. 113 x 177 cm. Signiert und datiert. Verso mit Etikett mit Werksangaben und Hinweisen zur Provenienz. In schwarzer Schattenfuge gerahmt. - Punktuelle Fleckchen und Bereibungen. Insgesamt sehr gut.

Deutsche Nachkriegsmoderne – Galerie Eigen + Art, Leipzig/Berlin.

German Post War – Oil and paper on canvas. Signed and dated. On the reverse, a label with details of the work and information on its provenance. Framed with a black shadow gap. - A few small spots and scuffs. Overall, very good condition. Galerie Eigen + Art, Leipzig/Berlin. - An early painting by Carsten Nicolai, created around the time he founded his label noton, thus documenting his transition from painter to conceptual and sound artist at the intersection of visual art, music and science. On a light monochrome background created by layers of paper applied to the canvas, Nicolai uses energetic brushstrokes to depict an abstract head figure combined with other symbolic motifs. Text and image exist in a productive tension with one another, as the word 'Kpf' simultaneously names and alienates, whilst the motif eludes unambiguous legibility.
