Naturwissenschaften – Macclesfield sale 1422 (large paper copy). - Norman 1529 (first edition). - Kress 5546c.

Natural Sciences – Mathematics. - With woodcut title vignette, decorative borders, and initials, engraved head and tail vignettes, tables, some full-page, with a blank page at the end of the title section. Contemporary calfskin binding (slightly worn, spine label damaged, spine slightly bumped at the top.) Second, expanded edition of Abraham de Moivre's seminal work on probability theory. This edition, significantly revised by the author, was the last to appear during his lifetime, a classic and groundbreaking work on probability. The first textbook on probability theory to offer, in this edition, an approximation of the binomial distribution using the normal distribution. A significant work on probability theory by a friend of Isaac Newton, greatly expanded compared to the first edition of 1718, which was dedicated to Newton. De Moivre's work, which had already been previewed in 1711 in the Philosophical Transactions with "De mensura sortis," was first published in 1718. This is the second and greatly improved edition, containing over 75 pages of new material. Mathematically, this is De Moivre's most important work, and all editions have been classified as "landmark writings in Western mathematics."-Stained in places, small hole in the lower margin of folio O3, some folios slightly trimmed at the bottom margin.
