Habakuk, 1577-1643). Das auch "Centrobaryea" betitelte Opus erschien zwischen 1635 bzw. 1640 u. 1641 (Tle. 2-4) in Wien bei Gelbhaar bzw. Cosmerovius, und enthält es die wissenschaftsgeschichtlich bedeutende, nach dem Verfasser benannte "Guldinsche Regel", welche aber laut Poggendorf schon ca. 300 v. Chr. in ähnlicher Form bei Pappus erwähnt wird. - "In the first volume Guldin determined the centers of gravity of plane rectilinear and curvilinear figures and of solids in the Archimedean manner. Against Nicolo Cabeo's attacks in 'Philosophia magnetica' (1629) directed toward his theory concerning the motion of the earth, Guldin reproduced in volume I his dissertation of 1622 and a note in which he discussed Cabeo's arguments" (DSB). - Titelei, Vorsätze, an den Rändern und im Schnitt teils gering stockfleckig, Bl. Natural Sciences – Mathematics. - First edition of the first of four parts of Guldin's magnum opus, illustrated with engraved printed device, 1 folding engraved and additionally copper engraved plate, 1 wood-cut plate, numerous, often large-format and sometimes full-page geometric wood-cut text illustrations and printed tables, as well as several floral ornamented, often large vignettes, as well as numerous initials, all in woodcut. Bound in contemporary vellum. - For references see above. - The most important work by mathematician Paul Guldin (actually Habakuk, 1577-1643). The opus, also titled 'Centrobaryea,' was published between 1635 and 1640 and 1641 (vols. 2-4) in Vienna by Gelbhaar and Cosmerovius, respectively, and contains the 'Guldin's rule', named after the author, which is significant in the history of science, but which, according to Poggendorf, was already mentioned in a similar form by Pappus around 300 BC. - " In the first volume, Guldin determined the centres of gravity of plane rectilinear and curvilinear figures and of solids in the Archimedean manner. End papers with owner's remarks in ink an pencil. Missing pagination 16 and 21 instead of 216 and 217. - Overall well-preserved copy with wide margins and strong printing.
