Geologie - Mineralogie - Conchyologie

Naturwissenschaften – Brunet II, 522. Cohen/R. 92., Nissen ZBI 144. Jahrhundert. - Nur stellenweise minimal fleckig. Insgesamt gutes Exemplar im dekorativen Einband.

Natural Sciences – Geology. - Mineraolgy. - Conchyliology. - With a frontispiece and 32 copper plates. An important treatise in which petrology and conchology are still presented together. The first part, the petrology, "traité des pierres," offers a systematic presentation of rocks and minerals, while the second part, the conchology, deals with the "coquillages" of the sea, rivers, and land, thereby laying the groundwork for an early, scholarly study of shells. The work is aimed at scholars and collectors, organizes the stones and shells known at the time into clear groups, and combines a new, bilingual classification method with practical advice for setting up a collection. It forms the basis for the later, separately published, revised volumes Oryctology and Conchyliology, and thus marks an important step in the early systematization of mineralogy and conchology in the 18th century. - Only minimally stained in places. Overall, a fine copy in a decorative binding.
