Mit 76 gefalteten, teils zusätzlich radierten Kupfertafeln sowie zahlreichen Zierleisten und Vignetten im Holzschnitt. Paris, Vallat-La-Chapelle und Ruault, 1770 und 1776. 2 Bl. (Tit., Widm.), LXVIII (Vorw., Inhaltsverz. u.a.), 326 S. und I-VIII, XXII (Inhaltsverz., Einf. u.a.), 504 S. Marmor. Kalbsldr. d. Zt. auf fünf erhabenen Bünden, die reichlich goldgepr. Rücken mittels Fileten, Punkt-, Rauten und aus Ovalen bestehenden Linien in sechs Fächer gegliedert, RTit. und Bandnr. auf Maroquin-Schildern in Fach zwei und drei, die restlichen Fächer mittig mit Pokalen und Medaillons und eingefasst in Eckfleurons, die Decken blindgepr. mit doppelten Fileten, Vorsätzen aus mehrfarbigem Schneckenmarmorpapier und marmoriertem Schnitt.

Naturwissenschaften – Erste Ausgabe von Genssanes Werk über Kohleabbau und die Anfänge des Hüttenwesen in Zentralfrankreich. - Graesse III, 49 - Poggendorff I, 873 - Im Handel sehr selten, für uns auf Auktionen seit 2012 nur ein einziges weiteres Mal nachweisbar. - Der Verfasser Antoine de Genssane war Direktor der Gruben im Languedoc und Konzessionär derjenigen in der Franche-Comte. - Die kräftig und kontrastreich gedruckten Tafeln zeigen technische Pläne, Feuerungsanlagen und das dafür vorgesehene Werkzeug. - Provenienz: 1. Nicolas Rambourg (1751-1828), mit dessen hs. Besitzermerk "á N Rambourg" in schwarzer Tinte auf beiden Titelblättern. Rambourg, ein aus dem Lothringischen zugegezogener Eisenmeister, erwarb 1788 ein Grundstück und einen Pachtvertrag in der Auvergne, um dort eine Hütte zu errichten. In den folgenden Jahren wurden drei Schmieden gebaut: Tronçais, Morat und Sologne, zusammen mit Teichen zur Wasserversorgung. - 2. Louis A. Laville, Sammler, Montlucon, mit dessen Exlibris-Stempel auf den Titelbl. verso beider Bände. - Titelbl. von Bd. 1 mit hinterlegter Fehlstelle, Leichte Feuchtigkeitsflecken auf den ersten acht Blättern des zweiten Bandes, sonst sehr gut erhaltener, breitrandiger Exemplarsatz in attraktiven Einbänden.

Natural Sciences – Geology. - Mineralogy. - An early work on coal mining and the beginnings of ironworks in central France, richly illustrated with 76 folded copper engraved plates, some additionally. Bound in marbled contempoary calf with rich gold tooling on spines, decorative end-papers and marbled cut. - For references see above. - Very rare on the market, verifiable to us only once more at auctions since 2012. - The author, Antoine de Genssane, was director of the mines in Languedoc and concessionaire of those in Franche-Comté. - The boldly and high-contrast printed plates show technical plans, furnaces, and the tools used for them. - Provenance: Nicolas Rambourg (1751-1828), with his handwritten ownership mark "à N. Rambourg" in black ink on both title pages. Rambourg, an ironmaster who had moved from Lorraine, acquired a plot of land and a lease in the Auvergne in 1788 to build an ironworks. In the following years, three plants were built: Tronçais, Morat, and Sologne, along with ponds for water supply. 2. Louis A. Laville, collector, Montlucon, with his book-plate stamp on the title page verso of both volumes. - Slight damp stains on the first eight leaves of the second volume, otherwise a very well-preserved, wide-margined set of copies in attractive bindings.
