Mit 25 gefalteten, teils zusätzlich radierten Kupfertafeln von Ph. Boutroir sowie zahlreichen, wovon mehreren illustrierten Zierleisten und Vignetten im Holzschnitt. Kalbsldr. d. Zt. auf fünf erhabenen Bünden, die reichlich goldgepr. Rücken mittels doppelten Fileten in sechs Fächer gegliedert, RTit. und Bandnr. auf Maroquin-Schildern in Fach zwei und drei, die restlichen Fächer mit floralen Vignetten von Akanthusranken eingefasst, Vorsätzen aus mehrfarbigem Schneckenmarmorpapier und umseitigen Rotschnitt (mit einigen kleinen Schadstellen, etw. berieben).

Naturwissenschaften – Erste französische Ausgabe von Delius' Hauptwerk zu Bergbau und Hüttenwesen. - Graesse III, 354. - Honeyman 849. - Poggendorff I, Sp. 544. - "Dieses Werk ist das beste, umfassendste und lehrreichste über Bergbau mit Einschluss der Erzaufbereitung, namentlich in den österreichischen Ländern, welches wir aus jener Zeit besitzen (...) auf Befehl Ludwigs XVI. (von M. Schreiber, Anm.) ins Französische übersetzt und auf königliche Kosten 1778 gedruckt" (ADB 5, 38). - Provenienz: 1. Nicolas Rambourg (1751-1828), mit dessen datiertem Besitzermerk "N Rambourg 1817" in schwarzer Tinte und dem Vermerk mit Bleistift "Bibliothèque Rambourg, Château de Montassiégé (1966) auf dem zweiten fliegenden Vorsatz recto von Bd. 1 bzw. dem Vermerk Vente de la Bibliothèque de N. Rambourg á Commentry" in schwarzer Tinte auf dem zweiten fliegenden Vorsatz recto von Bd. 2. Rambourg, ein aus Lothringen zugegezogener Eisenmeister, erwarb 1788 ein Grundstück und einen Pachtvertrag in der Auvergne, um dort eine Hütte zu errichten. In den folgenden Jahren wurden drei Schmieden gebaut: Tronçais, Morat und Sologne, zusammen mit Teichen zur Wasserversorgung. - 2. Louis A. Laville, Sammler, Montlucon, mit dessen Exlibris-Stempel auf den Titelbl. verso beider Bände. - Einige Tafeln in Bd. 2 mit leicht sichtbaren Wasserrändern, mitunter in den Rändern stw. gering braunfleckig und mit minimalen Stockfleckchen, Papier durchgehend gering gebräunt, sonst wohlerhaltener, breitrandiger Exemplarsatz in schmucken Einbänden.

Natural Sciences – Geology. - Mineralogy. - First French edition of Delius's main work on mining and metallurgy, strikingly illustrated with 25 folded copperplate engravings, some additionally etched, by Ph. Boutroir, as well as numerous woodcut ornamental head and tail-pieces, several of which are illustrated. - For references see above. - "This work is the best, most comprehensive and instructive on mining, including ore processing, especially in the Austrian lands, that we possess from that time (...) translated into French by order of Louis XVI (by M. Schreiber, note) and printed at royal expense in 1778" (ADB 5, 38). - Provenance: 1. Nicolas Rambourg (1751-1828), with his dated ownership remark "N Rambourg 1817" in black ink and the inscription in pencil "Bibliothèque Rambourg, Château de Montassiégé (1966)" on the second fly-leaf recto of Vol. 1, as well as the remark "Vente de la Bibliothèque de N. Rambourg à Commentry" in black ink on the second flyleaf recto of Vol. - Rambourg, an ironmaster who had moved from Lorraine, acquired a plot of land and a lease in the Auvergne in 1788 to build a forge. In the following years, three forges were built: Tronçais, Morat, and Sologne, along with ponds for water supply. - 2. Louis A. Laville, collector, Montluçon, with his book-plate stamp on the title page verso of both volumes. - Several plates of vol. 2 with slightly visible water-stains at margins, occasionally slightly brown-spotted and with minimal foxing in the margins, paper slightly browned throughout, otherwise a well-preserved, wide-margined set of copies in attractive bindings.
