Geologie

Naturwissenschaften – Erste und einzige Ausgabe, mit ausgezeichneten Lichtdrucken von sehr frühen Höhlenphotographien. - Poggendorf IV, 762. - Mit hs. Widmung des Verfassers auf dem Schmutztitel. - Die von Martin Rommel und Cie in Stuttgart gefertigten Phototypien nach originalen Photos von Max Müller je auf Karton mit Legenden montiert. - Die von J. H. Kloos (1842-1901), einem Braunschweiger Professor für Geologie und Mineralogie, erstmalig erforschte Hermannshöhle in Rübeland bei Wernigerode im Harz wurde 1866 bei Straßenbauarbeiten entdeckt. Sie ist ein typisches Beispiel für die Entstehung einer Flusshöhle. - Die photographischen Aufnahmen von Müller zählen zu den frühesten Höhlenphotographien überhaupt. Sie wurden durch die neuartige Erfindung des Magnesiumblitzlichts ermöglicht. - Papierbedingt etwas gebräunt. Textband im Innengelenk angebrochen, insgesamt gut erhaltenes Exemplar.

Natural Sciences – Geology. - First and only edition of this rare portfolio, with 20 excellent collotypes of very early cave photography. - For references see above. - With a handwritten dedication by the author on the half-title page. - The plates, produced by Martin Rommel and Co. in Stuttgart after original photographies by Max Müller, are each mounted on cardboard with captions underneath. - The Hermannshöhle cave in Rübeland near Wernigerode in the Harz Mountains, first explored by J. H. Kloos (1842-1901), a geologist and mineralogist from Braunscheig, was discovered in 1866 during road construction. It is a typical example of the formation of a river cave. Müller's photographic images are among the earliest cave photographs ever taken. They were made possible by the novel invention of the magnesium flash. - Paper slightly browned due to age. Text binding cracked at the inner joint, overall a well-preserved copy.
