Their History and Their Use, 1904. - Von großer Seltenheit, für uns auf Auktionen in keinem anderen Exemplar nachweisbar. - Enthält u.a. detaillierte Auskünfte zu geologischen, bergbaulichen und metallurgischen Modellen, Maschinen und Instrumenten, u.a. solchen zur Veranschaulichung von geologischen Phänomene, weiters zu Bergbauwerkzeugen, Bohrmaschinen, Vermessungsinstrumenten, Zeichenmaschinen, zahlreiche Modelle zur Demonstration der Funktionsweise von Kohlebergwerken und Salzbergwerken, Pumpen, Lüftungsanlagen, Stanz-, Sieb-, Brech- und Trennmaschinen, sowie metallurgische Modelle. Ein Index erschließt den informativen Führer im Detail. Umschlag rückseitig mit einem Verzeichnis der Publikationen im Rahmen der Schriftenreihe des Museums ("Memoirs..."). - Kompiliert wurde der Führer von der Geologin und Mineralogin Hilary Bauerman (1833-1909), die u.a. 1858 als Leiterin der North American Boundry Commission in Kanada fungierte und auch Mitglieder der Geological Society of London war (zit. Schuh's Annotated Bio-Bibliography, on-line). Die Bestände des in den 1830er-Jahren gegründeten Museums, einem der ersten wissenschaftlich geführten Einrichtungen dieser Art überhaupt, befinden sich heute im Natural History Museum. - Schnitt etw. fleckig, gering gebräunt, sonst sauberes Exemplar des Rarums.

Their History and Their Use, 1904. - Of great rarity, we have not been able to trace any other copy at auction. - Contains, among other things, detailed information on geological, mining, and metallurgical models, machines, and instruments, including those for illustrating geological phenomena, furthermore mining tools, drilling machines, surveying instruments, drawing machines, numerous models for demonstrating the workings of coal and salt mines, pumps, ventilation systems, punching, screening, crushing, and separating machines, as well as metallurgical models. An index provides detailed access to this informative guide. The rear wrapper contains a list of the museums's publications ("Memoirs..."). - The guide was compiled by the geologist and mineralogist Hilary Bauerman (1833-1909), who, among other things, served as head of the North American Boundary Commission in Canada in 1858 and was also a member of the Geological Society of London (cf. Schuh's Annotated Bio-Bibliography, on-line). The holdings of the museum, founded in the 1830s and one of the first scientifically managed institutions of its kind, are now housed in the Natural History Museum. - The edges are slightly stained and lightly, paper browned, otherwise, it is a clean copy of this rare item.
