Collection de 60 sections transversales de bois des essences forestières les plus importantes à l'usage des élèves de l'Ecole Forestière de Nancy. Mit 60 originalen Holzmustern. Nancy, Grosjean, o. J. (nicht nach 1851). 2 Bogen mit 8 bedr. S. (Tit., Vorw., Zwischentit., Tafelverz.), 60 montierte Muster in Duodez-Bogen mit diese je auf Vorderseite aufgeklebten, gedr. Namensetiketten. Ca. 15 x 12 cm. Lose in OHLdr.-Kassette mit goldgepr. ornament. RTit., die Außenwände bezogen mit gekämmten Marmorpapier, innen mit einfach gestrichenem Papier, die Deckel mit blindgepr. Papier als Lederimitat. Im OPp.-Schuber mit mit blindgepr. Papier als Lederimitat.

Naturwissenschaften – Spektakuläre Sammlung fragiler Holzproben, der Fachliteratur nicht bekannt. - Nicht in Nissen BBI, Pritzel und Hunt. - Von großer Seltenheit, für uns auf Auktionen der letzten 30 Jahre nicht nachweisbar. - Vollständig mit allen 60 im Verzeichnis genannten ca. 5 x 2 cm messenden Proben, deren Größe, geringe Dicke und Transparenz sowohl Gefäße, als auch Farbe und Jahresringe erkennen lassen. - Wie im Untertitel erwähnt ursprünglich als Lehrmittel für Auguste Mathieu, Professor an der Kaiserlichen Forstschule in Nancy und Forstinspektor ebendort, gedacht, wurde die vom Württembergischen Forstwissenschafter Hermann von Nördlingen (1818-97) zusammengestellte Sammlung wohl anlässlich der ersten Weltausstellung im Londoner Crystal Palace (1851) sowie eine weiteren ebendort im Jahr 1862 präsentiert, wo die Proben, vermutlich für die Betrachtung unter einem Mikroskop, einsehbar waren. Datierung und Bezug ergeben sich aus einem auf der Vorderseite von Bogen 1 (Probe "Abies excelsa, DC") aufgebrachten Stempel betitelt "Preismedaillen Nördlinger London 1851 & 1862". Eine weitere Ausgabe erschien 1855 bei Grimblot & veuve Raybois, ebenfalls in Nancy. - Die Bogen auf der Vorderseite rechts oben mit Nummerierung in Bleistift. Einige Bogen mit wenigen, sehr kleinen Stockfleckchen, die fragilen Holzmuster ausgezeichnet erhalten.

Natural Sciences – Botany. - Spectacular collection of 60 fragile wood samples, unknown to specialist references. Loose in the original publisher's card-board case and slip-case. - Not listed in Nissen BBI, Pritzel, or Hunt. - Of great rarity, not found at auctions in the last 30 years. - Complete with all 60 samples listed in the index on pp. 5-8, whose size (measuring approximately 5 x 2 cm), thinness, and transparency allow for the identification of vessels, color, and annual rings alike. - As mentioned in the subtitle, originally intended as a teaching aid for Auguste Mathieu, professor at the Imperial Forestry School in Nancy and forestry inspector there. The present collection, compiled and edited by the Württemberg forestry scientist Hermann von Nördlingen (1818-97), was likely presented at the first World's Fair in London's Crystal Palace (1851), and again there in 1862, where the samples were available for viewing, presumably under a microscope. The dating and reference are derived from a stamp on the front of sheet 1 (sample "Abies excelsa, DC") entitled "Prize Medals Nördlinger London 1851 & 1862". Another issue appeared in 1855 alos in Nancy, published by Grimblot & Veuve Raybois. - The sheets are numbered in pencil on the front upper right. Some sheets have a few very small foxing spots. Overall a very well preserved set of the fragile collection.
