Moderne Literatur und Kunst – Unikat. - "Exemplaire d'artiste sur velin d'Arches" (GA 400 Exemplare). - Hauptwerk des franz. Tiermalers.

Modern Literature and Art – Main work of the franc. Animal painter. Probably the most beautiful cat book of the 20th century with outstanding art deco etchings and original watercolors. The beautiful watercolors (approx. 20 x 5 to 20 x 15 cm.) as vignettes to the texts by Colette. The etchings illustrate the stories "Le Siamois, Fastagette, Simplette, Capucin et Adimah" and "Le petit chat noir". Nam had already illustrated Colette's book "Sept dialogues de betes" in 1912. - After training at the Ecole nationale superieure des beaux-arts, J. Lehmann (Gen. Nam, 1881-1974) initially worked as a caricaturist in Jean-Leon Gerome's studio for various magazines (Nos loisirs, La Vie Parisienne, Le Petit Journal illustre de la jeunesse, Le Sourire, Le Rire, La Baionnette). In 1926, he was commissioned to illustrate the book "Le Chat dans la litterature et dans les arts", which was published as a private edition. Lehmann, who was friends with J. Cocteau, P. Leautaud and J. Cassou, among others, also created Art Deco sculptures, preferably cats. Some of the sculptures were reproduced by the Sevres and Quimper porcelain factories in the 1930s. J. Nam died at the age of 93 on February 22, 1974 in his studio in the rue Nicolo in Paris, designed by the architect Louis-Raymond Fischer. - Title page and first text page slightly brownstained, otherwise in very good condition.
