Alte Drucke, Bibeln, Klassische Autoren in den Originalsprachen – Brüning. Bibliographie Kometenliteratur 474 (ohne Tafel). - BN V7960. - Zinner 2849. - Hellman 93. - Fischer 463. - Rosenthal 3626 (ohne G4). - Hockey BEA II, 981. - Gutes Exemplar.
Prints before 1600, Bibles, Classics in Original Languages – Astronomy. - With woodcut printer's mark and fold-out woodcut star chart. (Strasbourg:) printed by Bernhard Jobin, 1578. 33 leaves (call no. A1-H5) Small 4°. Modern paper cover with slipcase, edges dyed red (rubricated). (In slipcase). - A very rare complete work on comets, which are regarded here as celestial bodies, only a single auction record is listed in RBH. Most library copies are missing the plate. Roeslin was one of five observers who concluded that the Great Comet of 1577 lay beyond the Moon. His depiction of the comet, described as 'an interesting, if crude, endeavour', was among the earliest and was extremely complex. Roeslin also independently came to the realisation that it is not the Earth, but the Sun, that is the centre of the solar system. First edition of Roeslin's first published work, with a fold-out star chart, the astronomer Helisaeus Roeslin (1545-1616) was one of the first to recognise that comets are celestial bodies and not atmospheric phenomena, and together with Raimarus Ursus and Tycho Brahe, he developed a geo-heliocentric planetary model. Helisaeus Röslin (1545-1616) was an Alsatian theologian, natural philosopher and astrologer, 'Theoria nova coelestium meteoron' is his first published work and marks the beginning of a small series of cosmological and meteorological treatises. - A fine copy.
